The Problems

The digital revolution, with all its unmatched, life-enhancing benefits, is taking its toll on humans.

Now, more than ever, virtual seems true, and self-esteem seems accessible in a single touch. This paralyzing epidemic makes society stand still in the face of this digital flow, pertaining to most behavioral areas that we can imagine.

So we dive into a world of realistic information, but illusionist relations, less authentic than real.

According to my 2 year research on the French, German, and Mid-Eastern markets, I found that a large majority of connected users between 15 and 30 years, have difficulty meeting and opening a discussion – Social Anxiety. They are also attached to their mobile phones to a point where 28% showed signs of Nomophobia and digital addiction. In addition, the majority of digital users between 30 and 45 years prefer to meet people offline, but a major barrier is digital.

I needed to create offline social interactions through a simple and effective transition from virtual matter to reality.

The Research

I started testing the idea with several focus groups.

Sitting with people passionate about food and cooking would sit and fill a quick 5mn survey which we would use to match 2 profiles together based on their personality traits and similarities. We noticed that this exercise made it much easier for people to open a discussion live. Users were very surprised to have very interesting discussions with other attendees and enjoyed the idea of meeting in such an easy method. However, my biggest issue was to make this matching process more accurate, it was the users’ issue as well.

We needed more accurate recommendations

The new MEND platform aims to collect data on each user in a fun, seamless, and collaborative way. Many applications in the market may provide similar services. I performed a competitive analysis on the most notable apps to identify MEND’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

Low-fidelity design

I then moved to the wireframes design.

I started sketching the wireframes back in 2016 with the initial concept in mind which includes the fully functional recommender section and its relative feed, an Activities section where any user can add an activity or join one, and finally the challenges section where users can participate in several challenges to help them moderate their digital platforms usage.
